Last week in AI

Meta released Llama 2, the best open source LLM that rivals ChatGPT 3.5 turbo. The first version was the catalyst to the explosion of open LLM but it does not allow for commercialization. This version does. Many companies who have banned using 3rd party LLM because of data privacy can start incorporating Llama 2 into their products & operations

OpenAI’s rival Anthropic announced Claude 2 last week. It boasts

  • A context window of 100,000 tokens, 3 times that of GPT-4. This mean it can process longer documents, hold a longer chat history compared to ChatGPT.

  • Data as recent as early 2023 vs September 2021 of ChatGPT

  • Available for FREE at https://claude.ai/chats

How to use ChatGPT with your own private data (Part 1)

Many of our readers ask about how to use ChatGPT with their own data for example data from website, proprietary data from database.

The answer is Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), a technique outlined in this paper from Facebook research lab. RAG allows LLM to

  • Work with a data that does not fit in the context window

  • Use data after the initial training (cutoff date) to generate answer

  • Use proprietary data to generate answer
