Last week, OpenAI launched custom instructions for ChatGPT to solve this problem. It let you specify two things
- What would you like ChatGPT to know about you to provide better responses?
- How would you like ChatGPT to respond?
And ChatGPT will remember this information in every new chat
How to enable custom instructions
First, to turn on custom instructions
- Click on the

next to your email - Select
Settings & Beta
- Select
Beta Features
- Turn on Custom Instructions

Second, set your custom instructions
- Click on the

next to your email - New

menu should appear

How to use custom instructions
Here are some ideas to fill out the custom instructions form
- Where are you based
- What do you do for work
- What are your hobbies & interests
- What are some goals you have
For writing content, you can include the following in the first input
- Company
- Target audience
- Unique value propositions
To generate response with specific tone & voice, you can set
- Do & don't. For example: do use direct response. Do not use flowery or non-specific language
- Voice & tone: Helpful, respectful, casual, etc..
